Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) delivered a knockout blow, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in a high-scoring thriller. Despite being out of the playoff race, LSG signed off with a resounding bang, leaving a lasting impression.

Nicholas Pooran, the dynamite in LSG’s arsenal, exploded with a blistering 75 off just 29 balls. His innings was a fireworks display, propelling LSG to a formidable total of 214/6. KL Rahul, the steady anchor, chipped in with a solid 55, setting the stage for a challenging chase.

Mumbai, eager to salvage pride, witnessed Rohit Sharma blaze away to a scintillating 68. His partnership with Dewald Brevis provided a fiery start, but LSG’s bowling attack turned the tide. Ravi Bishnoi and Naveen-ul-Haq, the architects of MI’s downfall, snared two wickets each. Despite Naman Dhir’s late fireworks (62* off 28), Mumbai’s chase fizzled out, leaving them stranded at 196/8.

Rain interruptions added drama, disrupting Mumbai’s momentum post-rain. Lucknow’s bowlers, especially Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya, strangled the middle order, taking crucial wickets at pivotal moments. The defeat epitomized Mumbai’s season—full of promise but lacking execution—as they finished at the bottom of the points table.

For LSG, this victory was a sweet farewell to a bitter campaign. Even though they missed the playoffs, ending the season with a win against a marquee team like Mumbai provided a much-needed morale boost. As the curtains fall on MI’s campaign, the focus shifts to rebuilding and coming back stronger next season.

Hardik Pandya  Skipper: "It's been quite difficult. We didn't play good quality cricket this season, and that cost us. In this professional world, there are good days and bad days, but as professional cricketers, we always need to put our best foot forward.

I don't think effort was the issue, but as a group, we couldn't play smart or quality cricket, and the results reflect that. The whole season didn't go our way. It's okay, we can move past this game and look forward to the next season"

KL Rahul  Skipper: " I thought we had a very strong team and had all bases covered. A couple of injuries, which happen to every team, hurt us a little bit. We didn't play well enough collectively. When the bowlers had a good game, the batters didn't. We just didn't come together as much as we wanted. This is the kind of game we were looking for where the batters are scoring, and the bowlers are doing their job, but we couldn't get it together.Mayank and Yudhvir were sent to South Africa to train with our coach, Morne Morkel. They got good facilities and treatment throughout the year so they could play this season. There's not much T20 cricket coming up now. This season has taught me where I stand and how I can do better and get back into the team. My role depends on what the team needs. I’ve done that my whole career. We would have liked Pooran to bat higher, but the senior players are better suited to absorb the pressure. When Stoinis was at number 3, we thought it was better to have the hard hitters down the order.I think I am on my father-in-law's team now, as we are cheering for Sharma ji ka beta and his team for the upcoming World Cup."

Player of the Match: Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran:
"First of all, thanks to Jesus. Personally, I felt I had to do my job. Whatever the situation, you have to find a way. In Lucknow, it was tough with big boundaries. But I have been playing in these situations and just using the experience and making it count.I've batted at number 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. If I have to choose, I like the powerplay as well. I can't choose; I can bat at any position, and that's my strength. I can hit the spinners and I like to do those things for my team.I'm just blessed. I had a second chance to play this game.I would just enjoy it. I have overcome my challenges on and off the field, and a big thanks to the teams for supporting me. It has been a challenging journey, but thanks to the fans for their support. After tonight, it’s going to move there. It's back home. We are looking forward to it. The last couple of years have been tough for West Indies cricket and the fans, but we are really looking forward to it."
